Alfie – 7-8 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Hound dog for adoption

Alfie is a sensitive and loyal mature Cross-Breed male of medium size and is quite a character in a genteel, homely way. Alfie is thought to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Hound or Pointer and is approximately 7 – 8 years old. He is looking for a quiet home through no fault of his own (landlord’s no pets policy). Alfie loves children (having lived with young children) so would be fine around visiting children (over 8) who are responsible, considerate and dog savvy. Alfie is also quite a lady’s man, as he really enjoys human female company and being gently petted. He has no problem with a bit of male bonding and gets on with one and all, although any rough play is not his style.

Alfie does well in a quiet home environment as he is noise sensitive. He struggles with storms, fireworks and loud bangs and wears a storm vest which helps to calm his anxiety. Normally Alfie enjoys playing with you with his toys and relaxing on the sofa or laying in the garden on the slide, sunlounger, whatever he thinks you have put out for him. Alfie is a tolerant dog. He gets on well with the resident cat and with most dogs out and about, although is occasionally wary of some larger breeds such as German Shepherds, whom he will bark at. He is also very good at sharing his home with dogs he knows and will even share his food bowl.

Alfie is calm indoors and can be left for several hours with no problem. He does jump up to greet people at times when excited and will bark when the doorbell rings or unknown people come to the door. He enjoys country walks and likes his swims in the sea. Alfie is well known for sitting in the shower of his own accord waiting to be washed down after his swims, often beating other members of the household to the shower! He is responsive to training and likes to please. Alfie also walks well on the lead. His recall is generally good as he comes to a whistle and is now used to being rewarded with a treat. At times he can get anxious on walks and he will suddenly sit and not want to move, but this is happening less and less often as he feels more at ease and confident. In our ongoing assessment of Alfie, we have found him to be a loving, kind and loyal dog who would be the perfect best friend for somebody.

Alfie is currently with his owner in Rustington, West Sussex while possible and while a good home is being sought. If you think Alfie is a good match for you and you would like to meet him in person, please get in touch. Home visit and donation apply.
