Paul Blackthorne, who plays Quentin Lance, is leaving Arrow after six seasons.
While Arrow has had its share of cast changes over its six seasons and counting, there have been three cast members who have been on the show since the very first episode and have stuck around for the long haul thus far. But now that number is down to two. Paul Blackthorne, who has played the role of Quentin Lance, who has been a detective, police captain, deputy mayor and currently acting Mayor of Star City, will not be returning for the recently announced seventh season of Arrow.
It’s the latest in a line of big changes for the show, as showrunners have changed for next season and Colton Haynes is returning as a series regular after being mostly gone the last couple of seasons except for an episode here and there.
As to how Quentin Lance exits the show, that’s anybody’s guess. Maybe he just decides it’s all been too much and leaves. Maybe he’s killed in the big final battle of the season. Maybe he runs off with Evil Laurel Lance somewhere remote and they continue their weird father/daughter but not really emotional dance with each other.
In a show that’s been more bad than good the last couple seasons, Quentin Lance has actually been one of the worst aspects of Arrow for a long time. Whether it’s through constant alcoholic relapses (which he’s been given endless chances on), his stupefying unwavering belief that his daughter’s evil, homicidal doppelganger from another dimension is somehow a good person underneath, or any number of generally bad decisions too numerous to mention. It’s probably a good idea to dump the character and either just have him pop up on occasion or never mention him again.
The season finale of Arrow airs May17 on The CW.
